The RTÉ Player attracted over 1 million streams and 671,000 unique browsers across all platforms over the Christmas period according to the Donnybrook broadcaster.

In addition, the RTÉ Player app also recorded over 30,000 downloads over Christmas period.

Soaps and Irish comedy proved to be the firm favourites and some of the top individual shows that attracted the highest streams were Mrs. Brown’s Boys: Mammy’s Christmas Punch and Mrs. Brown’s Boys: Mammy’s Widows Memories claiming the number 1 and number 4 spot with a combined total of 47,800 streams.

EastEnders streaming figures doubled over the Christmas period with a total of 240,000 streams over the two-week period.  Daily streaming numbers peaked for Eastenders on 29th December with the Christmas Day episode.  Fair City’s dramatic storyline, meanwhile, ensured a peak of daily streams on New Year’s Day with the Christmas episode proving most popular over the two week period. Other notable streams included The Rubberbandits Guide to 1916 and The Tommy Tiernan Show.

RTÉ Player’s brand new Food Hub also enjoyed a debut outing. Featuring videos of well-known Irish chefs such as Darina Allen, Donal Skehan and Neven Maguire, the Food Hub will continue to expand its collection of bite-size video recipes. Currently the Food Hub is featuring New Year! New You! recipes.
