Director Tara O’Callaghan has joined production company Ponder, adding to the company’s directing roster following a run of international recognition for her documentary and short-form work.
O’Callaghan’s debut documentary, Call Me Mommy, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and later won the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Young Director Award.
She has also been named among The Irish Times’ “50 People to Watch”, while her work has received recognition at the Sharks and the EDAs.
Her latest short film, No Time Wasters, was nominated for an IFTA.
Ponder said O’Callaghan’s work is characterised by a strong documentary instinct, a focus on character and performance and a distinctive visual style.
Paul Holmes, executive producer at Ponder, said the company was pleased to add her to its roster.
“Tara has always been drawn to the unexpected side of people,” he said. “With a documentary instinct for character and performance and a love of bold, visceral filmmaking, she makes work that feels unmistakably human and anything but ordinary. I’m delighted to have her as part of the Ponder team.”
O’Callaghan said she had long admired the production company’s work and the individuality of the directors on its roster.
