Tara Campbell Appointed as New Head of RTÉ 1

Tara Campbell has been appointed as the new head of RTÉ 1.

Prior to her new role she was managing editor of the station for the past five years having originally started her career with the station as a continuity announcer before going on to become a producer. She will have overall responsibility for the editorial leadership and programming of RTÉ Radio 1 and will play a critical role in the delivery of RTÉ’s five-year strategy, 2025 – 2029.

She replaces Peter Woods who took on the job in 2020 and has since left the broadcaster.

“RTÉ Radio 1 plays a significant role in Ireland and is an important part of RTÉs overall portfolio. I look forward to working with Tara to develop our output so that RTÉ Radio 1 continues to be the leading choice for audiences for many generations to come,” says Patricia Monahan, director of audio, RTÉ.
