Tesco Ireland Media Account Moves to GroupM

GroupM CEO Bill Kinlay

Tesco Ireland has moved its media buying account to GroupM. The move is part of a Tesco International consolidation of all business into GroupM under the MediaCom and Mindshare brands in multiple markets.

Apart from the UK, where GroupM has been managing the account for a number of years, other markets in which Tesco operates, including Ireland, Thailand, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Malaysia will also move to GroupM.

In Ireland, the business will be housed in a specifically designed unit known as Team Tesco and Powered by GroupM when the account transfers in April.

According to Bill Kinlay, CEO of GroupM Ireland: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with such a large, dynamic and progressive client in Tesco. We look forward to getting under the skin of their business and helping them gain further competitive advantage in the Irish market. Obviously, for every win, somebody has to lose out and I would like to pay tribute to the team at Initiative Media who have done a superb job on the Tesco business. I really wish that our gain did not mean their loss but unfortunately, that’s the way it has to be. We acknowledge that this is a huge loss for them and wish them all the very best with managing it. We will be working closely with Eamon Fitzpatrick and his team to manage the transition and make it as smooth as possible on all sides.”
