dmg media Ireland has won the Print-Digital Fusion Award at the global WAN-Ifra Sustainability and Print Innovation Awards for its Irish language platform, ExtraG.ie.
The World Association of News Publishers, also known as WAN-Ifra, is the world’s largest international press organisation representing 3,000 news publishing companies and 40 member publisher associations in 120 countries.
The award recognises innovation in projects that successfully integrate print and digital storytelling. ExtraG.ie, an Irish language extension of the popular Extra.ie website, was created to make everyday Irish more accessible through engaging and relatable content. The platform has been officially recognised as an Irish language medium by the Office of An Coimisinéir Teanga.
In February of this year, dmg media expanded its Irish language offering with the launch of ExtraG Gach Seachtain, a weekly supplement in the Irish Daily Mail. The publication extends ExtraG’s reach across dmg media’s print and digital portfolio, underscoring the company’s commitment to promoting the Irish language.
“Ireland’s ExtraG Gach Seachtain, a weekly bilingual print and digital supplement from dmg media Ireland and the Irish Daily Mail, was celebrated for its role in meeting new legislative requirements while unlocking cultural and commercial potential, bringing the Irish language to life for the next generation audience,” according to WAN-Ifra.
This global recognition follows a series of recent wins for ExtraG. Earlier this year, the initiative won Gold at The Media Awards in Dublin and was shortlisted for the Gradam Margaíochta le Gaeilge at the 2025 Marketing Institute of Ireland’s All-Ireland Marketing Awards.
Joe Walsh, Editor of ExtraG.ie and ExtraG Gach Seachtain, said: “To see an Irish language media initiative recognised on a global stage is truly fantastic. ExtraG is dedicated to celebrating and promoting the Irish language, offering content that resonates with both fluent speakers and learners alike.”
“ExtraG.ie delivers the most popular stories of the day through the Irish language. It’s the content people want—news, entertainment, sport—presented in a modern, accessible format. It’s not Irish for Irish’s sake; it’s relevant, engaging media that just happens to be in Irish. This global award win means a great deal to everyone at dmg media,” added Paul Henderson, CEO of dmg media Ireland.
The awards were presented during the annual World Printers Summit in Munich, which brings together publishing leaders from around the world to celebrate excellence and share best practices in journalism and print innovation.
