Bord Gais Backs Shine a Light With New Campaign

Bord Gais Energy has thrown its weight behind a new campaign to promote Focus Ireland’s Shine a Light Initiative which takes place on October 18th.

The agency that conceptualised, developed and delivered ‘Moving Day’ was Along Came A Spider – a company fast becoming synonymous with shining a light on social and cultural issues. The project team spent months working closely with Focus Ireland getting to the very heart of why Focus exist with the aim of telling it in the most honest and impactful way, but most importantly, for action to be taken to alleviate this growing crisis.

Now in its eighth year, Shine A Light Night, in association with its main corporate sponsor, Bord Gáis Energy, is Focus Ireland’s biggest annual fundraising initiative and has raised over €4m since 2012 to help fund Focus Ireland’s work challenging homelessness and changing lives.  These funds helped the charity to support a record number of 15,500 people last year who were either homeless or at risk of losing their home.

Each year, business leaders across Ireland, including many from the advertising, marketing and media industries,  are challenged to brave the weather and sleep-out for one night while raising vital funds to help fight homelessness. On Friday, 18th October the Shine A Light Night sleep-outs will take place at the Law Society of Ireland, Blackhall Place, Dublin, Iveagh Gardens Dublin, Cork’s historic Spike Island and King’s John Castle, Limerick.

According to Catherine O’ Kelly, managing director, Bord Gáis Energy: “While the statistics are shocking and the growing numbers of people who are homeless is extremely worrying, we all need to remember that these are real people we’re talking about; real Irish families with children who are suffering every day. Our hope is that this powerful ad campaign will really help to mobilise businesses and communities to act and take themselves out of their comfort zones for one night of important fundraising.”
