Maximum Media Launches First Female-Focused Sports Show

PlayXPlay panel and extended team

In response to the growing demand for more female-focused content in the wider media industry, Maximum Media has launched a new female-focused talk show called PlayXPlay.

The new show will be filmed live at Maximum Media’s Dublin city centre studios and distributed at scale to the SportsJOE and Her audiences. The show is sponsored by AIG.

Fronted by former Irish international rugby player Jenny Murphy and backed by Dublin GAA’s Niamh McEvoy, the weekly panel show with rotating guest contributors is the first in the Irish market to exclusively focus on leading sportswomen. SportsJOE and Her are official digital media partners of 20X20 – a movement that aims to increase the visibility of women’s sport in Ireland – while AIG is also an official sponsor of 20X20.

Gillian Fitzpatrick, Chief Operating Officer at Maximum Media says: “PlayXPlay exists to deliver what is currently missing in the Irish marketplace; a high-quality sports show celebrating female athletes in Ireland. AIG has a long and proud track-record championing sportswomen and we are excited to partner with them for this series. At Maximum Media, we know there is a huge appetite among our audiences for shows like PlayXPlay, and we’re looking forward to building on the huge successes of our existing sports shows, GAA Hour and House Of Rugby.”

John Gillick, Head of Direct Marketing and Sponsorship, AIG Ireland adds: “AIG are delighted to partner with Maximum Media, who are Ireland’s leading premium digital publishing company and home to some of the country’s best-known digital brands with massive reach, users and social media audiences.

“As proud sponsor and partner to a number of Irish sporting bodies where gender balance and support is a common thread across our properties, the PlayXPlay series in partnership with Maximum Media is a strong fit for us both as a media product and for both our brands.

“Our brands align well in terms of target audiences, both are committed to supporting women in sport and we are both partners to the 20X20 award-winning campaign – so PlayXPlay was a natural product and platform borne out of this social movement that is gaining momentum all the time.”

Sarah Colgan, MD Along Came A Spider and 20X20 Co-Founder adds: “There is no doubt that the success, the skills and the stories are there when it comes to women’s sport. Up to now there just hasn’t been enough noise. 20X20 is delighted to see PlayXPlay coming from our 20X20 partners AIG, Her and SportsJOE and excited to see a new platform giving more on sport to a nation of sport lovers.”

PlayXPlay will be available to watch exclusively on YouTube while audiences can alternatively listen to the show on Soundcloud, and iTunes.
