At the annual APMC Star Awards which were held last week, guns or knives’ launch campaign for Orchard Thieves was the big winner on the night.

The agency’s launch of Heineken’s cider brand also won 2 Gold Category awards earlier in the evening. The agency developed a full through the line campaign beginning with a media teaser and developing a den of thieves online – which delivered over 1.1 million drinks into people’s hands in the first 6 weeks.  guns or knives also picked up Gold awards for their work for Hailo and Heineken.

The other big winner on the night was HAVAS Worldwide Dublin who won the Best Creative award for their The Tiger Uncaged campaign also for Heineken Ireland. The Tiger campaign picked up an earlier Gold award. The campaign saw a ‘living’ Tiger sculpture created by Andrew and Ger Clancy prowl through on-trade outlets. Other golds for HAVAS included 2 gold awards for their Southern Comfort ‘Always Comfortable’ campaign and gold for Suntory’s Lucozade Sport Conversion Challenge. The agency took home a total of 14 Awards.

Speaking at the Awards Chairperson of the judging panel Garry Munns, Integrated Creative Director at Leo Burnett London said “as always, the agencies and brands that picked up the awards this year, were those who recognized the power of a well thought through, simple creative idea.

It was great to see agencies and brands being recognised for work that used unconventional channels in their thinking to create fresh, nicely thought through ideas – which they’ve now rightly been awarded for.”

Boys & Girls, Verve the Live Agency and Cawley Nea|TBWA also did well with three category wins each, while there was category wins for Runway Marketing, Delta Group, Publicis D, Publicis Group and Backup Marketing.

Hosted by Ian Dempsey, the Star Awards attracted an increased number of agencies entering the awards this year and over 180 packed into the Marker Hotel for the evening’s fun. Now in their 23rd iteration, the Star Awards are the largest brand activation awards in Ireland and the only awards which qualify agencies to enter the EACA IMC Awards in Europe.
