Independent.ie Launches Apple Watch App

Independent.ie, has become the first Irish news brand to release an Apple Watch News App.

Curated by the digital editorial team, news stories will constantly evolve and change throughout the day on the new app which uses the latest iOS deployed by Apple. The app was developed internally over a four week period by a cross-functional team including representatives from design, editorial, development and product management.

According to Lia Bresnihan, head of digital marketing, Independent News & Media, “the new Apple Watch app shows our commitment to mobile innovation, and our goal to deliver our award-winning content in a way that is most relevant to our readers. Our digital audience expect to be able to access breaking news from all their devices.”

Independent.ie has recently re-launched both its iOS and Android Apps, resulting in a growth in App traffic in excess of 60% over the past 5 months.  Both Apps now offer support for features such as breaking news notifications, video content, bookmarking and the ability to set up a “Favourites” section.

The app was developed internally over a four week period by a cross-functional team including representatives from Design, Editorial, Development and Product Management.
