New Website For Irish Diaspora In USA
A new web site, IrishCentral.com, has arrived offering Irish-American news and entertainment.
Niall O'Dowd, the New York-based Irish publisher is behind the site, which includes genealogy information, top tourist spots in Ireland as well as breaking news and features. Its target audience is the Irish diaspora, which numbers 36.5 million in the United States, more than eight times the population of Ireland.
O'Dowd, whose prominence in the Irish-American community was cemented by his role in helping to broker the Northern Irish peace agreement, said he had managed to raise $2.4 million in investments from prominent Irish-American businessmen and advertising commitments.
IrishCentral.com readers are able to discuss, comment on, or rate any article or video on the site. There is also a live streaming webcam from Dublin, special Irish crossword puzzles and Celtic horoscopes, as well as an online store for everything from books to hand-knit sweaters.
Officially opened by Taosaich Brian Cowen, who visited New York on Sunday, the site went fully operational on Tuesday. The site can be found at http://www.irishcentral.com/.
