New York Times to Charge for Online Content
The New York Times has announced that it plans to charge for online content in 2011.
The paper says that it intends to introduce a metered system which will offer visitors to NYTimes.com a set number of free articles each month. Readers wishing to look at any articles over and above this threshold will then have to pay.
However people who avail of the paper's home-delivery service will be given free access to the site.
The new strategy, which will be introduced in January 2011 is similar to the online strategy used by the successful FT.com, which currently allows users a set number of "free" articles per month.
