Publicis Rolls Out New Safety Campaign for Gas Networks Ireland

Gas Networks Ireland has refreshed their its safety messaging for the social age. The public will be familiar with a campaign that’s been running for 5 years where a reassuring Gas Networks Ireland representative walks us through the steps to take ‘when you smell gas’.

In the updated film, these steps are augmented by a series of 3D titles within each scene to aid the viewer’s comprehension. This bold graphical device is designed with digital media in mind where voiceover can be less effective, and scroll-behaviour favours an impactful visual approach.

The new campaign is the first to feature a female Gas Safety Engineer (First Response Fitter) and reflects the brand’s progressiveness. It’s in line with the company’s dedicated STEM ambitions, promoting equal representation in technical and engineering roles.

Created by Publicis Dublin, the ad was directed by the Emmy Award winning Emer Reynolds of Antidote Films.

According to Gas Networks Ireland’s Networks Safety Manager, Owen Wilson: “As guardians of Ireland’s gas infrastructure, safety is at the heart of everything we do. We want our customers and the public alike to know that in the unlikely event they ever smell gas or suspect a gas leak, even if they are not sure, to take immediate action for their safety. The aim of our awareness campaign is to urge people not to ignore any suspected gas leak. If they do smell gas at home, they need to open windows and doors, don’t smoke, vape or use a naked flame, don’t unplug or switch anything electrical on or off, and turn off the gas at the meter. They should then call our emergency team on 1800 20 50 50.”
