The Public House helps Barnardos promote their new Covid-19 Parent Supportline

Barnardos has launched a national telephone support service for parents in response to the challenges they are facing during the Covid-19 pandemic. This service will be staffed by Barnardos project workers who are trained professionals, and helping parents with topics that include how to talk to your children about Covid19, setting a good routine, advice on home-schooling, etc.

The Public House wanted to play their part in response to the pandemic and offered to help Barnardos on a pro-bono basis. As this was a brand new service for a wide audience, the strategic approach focused on ensuring the phone line was positioned as an inclusive service for all parents and that comms were separated enough from other Barnardos advertising. The resulting idea was ‘the new normal’, a campaign that highlights how abnormal this new normal is and encourages all parents to seek a bit of extra support via the support line. The campaign includes press, radio, digital and social media.

This is the agency’s first work for Barnardos.

Barnardos Director of Fundraising Mary Gamble said: ” Parents are finding their worlds of parenting and work colliding right now, so we set out to find a simple way to make the point, and give them a sense that they’re not alone.” Sarah Walsh, Senior Strategist, The Public House, added: “This was a really unique challenge for both ourselves and the team at Barnardos, offering a new service to all parents for the first time. What’s really interesting is that regardless of who they are, where they live or what age their kids are, all parents are feeling the strain of the covid19 restrictions right now. Getting that across in the creative was really important for us.”

The Public House is an independent strategic and creative agency in Dublin, with clients including Jameson, Paddy Power, EPIC: The Irish Emigration Museum, and Independent News & Media. The agency is known for its strategic rigour and creative edge that delivers for its clients, with a philosophy that ‘Boring Doesn’t Sell’.
