Adland Gears Up For Rugby World Cup 2015

With the countdown to the Rugby World Cup 2015 now underway, the level of advertising and marketing activity around some of Ireland’s players and indeed the international team is expected to go up several gears over the coming weeks with many brands and official partners and sponsors of the IRFU and IRB expected to roll out campaigns.

First out of the trap was fast food brand SUBWAY recently ran a ‘Train with Tommy Competition’ across the INM network of sites. The competition allowed rugby teams, schools and tag rugby teams the chance to win €1,000 for their club and a training session with Irish International rugby player Tommy Bowe.

This multi-platform campaign was driven through native content, display advertising, print advertising and a strong social strategy. The competition attracted entries from over 100 rugby teams across Ireland. In addition to running on Independent.ie, this campaign ran across its regional titles online and The Herald newspaper. INM created all the display assets.

Over the coming weeks, we would encourage Adlanders to send us in your best Rugby World Cup advertising and we will publish the best of them while we will also look at what brands in other rugby playing countries are doing in the build-up to the tournament.
