Media Awards 2016: The Winners List

The Irish media industry was out in force at the annual Media Awards in the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel last night, March 31st.

With a record number of entries to the Awards this year, a total of 910 people, representing media agencies, media owners and clients, packed the ballroom of the hotel.

With 22 categories, the big winner on the night was Starcom which walked away with five Gold awards, including the Grand Prix and the Rising Star Award which this year went to Colum O’Hara. Starcom won the hotly contested Grand Prix for its work with the Heineken-owned Orchard Thieves cider.

Starcom’s sister agency, Mediaworks also picked up five Gold, two Silver and a Bronze awards. Four of the Gold awards were for campaigns on behalf of the discounter Lidl while the other Gold was for work with KBC Bank.

Other media agencies that picked up Gold awards on the night included Vizeum and PHD, both of which won two apiece while Havas Media also picked up a Gold award for Hyundai.

Media owners that fared well on the night included the Irish Times, Journal Media, TV3 and Maximum Media, all of which picked Gold awards while the Sunday Business Post won Media Brand of the Year.

The Media Agency of the Year (ROI) went to Carat while Genesis in Belfast won the Northern Ireland Agency of the Year.

Elsewhere, Core Media won the Agency Network of the Year Award while Sales Team of the Year went to Media Central.

The 2016 Media Hero Award was won by Noel Curran (above), the outgoing director general of RTÉ for his services to the Irish media industry. Curran is due to step down from the job over the coming months.
