Sorrell is Adland’s Richest Executive
If you didn't already know it, then WPP's head honcho Martin Sorrell is the richest executive working in the marketing communications industry in the UK and Ireland and probably the rest of the world.
According to the annual Sunday Times Rich List 2012, which will be published this Sunday, Sorrell is listed in 12th position overall in the rankings of the richest people in the UK. Sorrell's wealth is estimated to be in the region of £174m according to the Sunday Times. This was up from £148m the previous year and reflects a strengthening in the WPP share price in the intervening period. His stake in WPP alone is worth around £156m.
The title of the richest goes to the reclusive brothers David and Freddie Barclay who are currently locked in a high profile legal battle with Northern Irish businessman Paddy McKillen. The owners of The Telegraph and the Littlewoods mail-order business, their fortune is estimated to be worth around £2.2 billion.
