Indo Moves to Bolster its Board
Following last week's boardroom coup at Independent News & Media, the company has brought on board a heavy-hitting media professional to shore up its depleted board.
Alan Marshall is a former chief operations and technology director with Associated Newspapers in the UK and played a key role in the development of the group's IT division Associated Mediabase (AMB). Under his stewardship, AMB implemented a range of successful technical solutions for the group's editorial, advertising, digital media and commercial operations.
Marshall left Associated in 2005 to co-found iMedia Advisory, an international media consultancy firm with offices in Sydney, Beirut and Dublin where it is headquartered.
An Australian by birth, a former journalist and a graduate of the Harvard Business School, Marshall is also currently acting as the head of the UK-based Telegraph Group's unit which is responsible for technology transformation.
In recent years Marshall has also been active on various international media organizations and sat on the board of Ifra, the worldwide association for newspaper and media technology which is based in Germany). He also sat on the technology committee for the National Newspaper Association of America (NAA) and has been heavily involved with the World Association of Newspapers (WAN), sitting on its task force on digital media.
Marshall's appointment to the board comes days after David Reid Scott's resignation and less than a week after the boardroom coup which saw chairman James Osbourne and CFO James Buggy voted off the board by leading shareholders Denis O'Brien and Dermot Desmond. Independent News & Media will step up its efforts to appoint a number of new directors, including a chairman, over the coming weeks.
