The42 has entered into a year-long content partnership with eir Sport that will see the broadcaster sponsor a host of new content on Ireland’s leading sports news app.

The cross-platform partnership, planned by Vizeum Ireland includes the launch of a number of new products on The42.

The first, Close Calls, is a weekly show which will be first aired on Facebook Live and then distributed on site as well as in podcast form. The show will build anticipation for the must-see sporting fixture that weekend by going live to a reporter on the ground at the venue, whether it’s Las Vegas or Croke Park.

The second, The Crossover, is a video-led native series on The42, talking to sportspeople who are famous for one sport, about their love for another. The goal of this new series is to bring to life the emotion and shared moments that sport creates both for sportspeople and fans.

eir Sport will also take up a tenancy on The42’s popular Score Centre, a media first in Ireland.

According to Adrian Russell, editor of The42: “This partnership is a perfect fit as we believe readers of The42 are typical eir Sport viewers; as passionate about the Premier League as they are the UFC, as interested in Gaelic games as Major League Baseball.

“The partnership has already allowed us to expand our range of offerings with Close Calls and we are very excited about the upcoming series, The Crossover.”

Gordan Britchfield of eir Sport said: “This is another way that eir Sport is helping deliver more choice and more content to Sports fans, something that we have consistently said is a key priority for us over the last twelve months.  Viewing habits and trends are changing and this relationship is another way for us to keep ahead of the curve.”
